Welland Campus Transformation

The Welland Campus will undergo the most dramatic changes made since it opened in 1967. This project will significantly improve the institutional infrastructure in Welland, a provincially designated Economic Improvement Zone. Niagara College will present a new face to the community with easily identified entrances. The new construction includes an academic wing, athletic centre, student centre and expansion of the Skilled Trades and Technology Centre already underway. Renovations will create an expanded library and learning commons, and a new visual arts centre. This campus transformation will enhance the student experience, as well as provide more opportunities for community groups to enjoy these new spaces.

Academic Wing - This addition on the northeast side of the campus will be the new home of the Paramedic, Social Service Worker, Police Foundations and Criminal Justice programs. The space will feature two 140-seat and two 70-seat lecture theatres, as well as labs and classrooms.

Library and Learning Commons - The library will be expanded and opened up to the cafeteria, and a new learning commons will be created in the Manera Courtyard that will have a roof to make it usable year-round. This light-filled, accessible area will become the heart of the campus.

Athletic Centre - A new wing facing First Avenue will house a larger Athletic Centre with improved amenities, such as expanded fitness and aerobics centres. The double, varsity-sized gymnasium will seat up to 1,000 spectators to cheer on sports competitions.

Student Centre - A two-storey great hall, ideal for special events, will dominate the new Student Centre with easy access to the Athletic Centre next door. Other features include an alumni lounge, games room, enhanced bar and food serving facilities, meeting room and offices. There will also be access to an outdoor patio and volleyball court.

Skilled Trades and Technology Centre - The expanded centre will feature new and renovated labs and classrooms. These changes will create additional spaces in skilled trade and apprentice programs, such as welding, metal fabrication, construction, carpentry, cabinetmaking and electrical.
